Mia Wasikowska was born on 14 October 1989. Mia Wasikowska is an Australian actress. She became known for her critically acclaimed work on the HBO television series In Treatment, after which she ventured into American film. A series of smaller parts led to starring roles in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland (2010), Gus Van Sant's film Restless (2011), and Cary Joji Fukunaga's adaptation of Jane Eyre (2011).

Wasikowska was born and raised in Canberra. Her mother, Marzena Wasikowska, is a photographer from Poland, while her father, John Reid, is an Australian painter-and-collagist. She is the middle child of three, having an older sister and a younger brother. Her parents often took her on their gallery rounds across Europe, with a year in Poland when she was eight years old. In her spare time, she is an avid photographer.

Wasikowska trained as a ballerina from the age of nine to fifteen, including two years training 35 hours a week. However, at age 14 she began to turn away from ballet, "It just became so much about achieving physical perfection and I started being so negative - your self-esteem can just plummet. What I loved about film was all the imperfections It was about life and about things that are imperfect.
